WINE AROMA KIT

ROLE: PRODUCT MANAGER & DESIGNER

NOVEMBER 2023

Building on the success of the original Wine Aroma Kit, we recently launched two new kits tailored specifically for red and white wines, incorporating user feedback to make key improvements and enhancements. As with the first kit, I led the entire process from concept to completion, taking all the necessary steps to ensure their success.

The Wine Aroma Kit was a year-long project that I led from concept to completion, overseeing the entire design process, including key visual design decisions and supplier communication in China, as well as post-launch marketing. The kit is designed to help both beginners and experienced wine connoisseurs develop their sensory skills, particularly in aroma recognition.

Before starting this project, I conducted thorough research on my target audience—wine connoisseurs—as well as a competitor analysis. Humans have over 350 olfactory receptors, which change over time as cells regenerate. Wine connoisseurs rely heavily on these senses to detect the primary, secondary, and tertiary aromas in wine, a challenging task when relying solely on scent without the aid of sight or taste. The competitor landscape on Amazon for a sensory training tool was relatively untapped, providing an opportunity to enhance existing aroma kits in both content and price.

As the Lead Product Manager, I was responsible for sourcing suppliers and managing daily communication to ensure the project stayed on track and met deadlines. I oversaw the selection of design elements and the overall look of the kit, while troubleshooting any challenges that arose. In addition, I conducted in-depth research on the art of wine tasting and the use of olfactory senses, organizing this information into a visually appealing instruction booklet and scent sheet.

The Wine Aroma Kit launched in November 2023, and within the first month, thanks to targeted advertisements and marketing efforts, sales surged by over 755%, propelling the product's ranking up by 30,000 units. Since then, the kit has maintained steady profitability, with a 26.5% revenue increase over the past 6 months compared to the previous period, reflecting strong growth and market demand. Part of it success is attributed to digital advertisements that I set up and manage, which drove sales by over 30% in 2024. The Aroma Kit remains #10 out of all Wine Education and Games sold on Amazon to this day.
